How To Plan Your Vacation in 2022
It’s been a stressful couple of years, but that’s all the more reason to make sure you get your vacation right in 2022 – you deserve it after all!
We all love to take some time to relax, unwind, and explore, but every great vacation has to start with some planning. That’s why this month at The Beacon Inn, we’ve created a simple guide to the steps you can take to make your vacation in 2022 the best it can be.
Let’s jump right in!
Research your destination
If you have some potential destinations lined up, it’s time to start looking at some practical elements to help you decide which is the best option. Try to research the following:
Key to almost any vacation is whether you’re prepared to put up with cloudy or even rainy days, or whether you’d prefer sunshine to soak up. Find out what the weather will be like in your destination for the dates you have in mind (we’ll talk about availability shortly).
Is there any potential paperwork to be completed such as a visa? This could make your trip more expensive and more difficult to plan around – it all depends on how much you have your heart set on going abroad for your vacation.
What are the key attractions in your destination? You might be looking for a place with access to wildlife and nature, or you might prefer to know there is plenty to do in the evening with bars and entertainment. Either way, take a look at your shopping and dining options as they’ll provide some of your basic amenities while you’re away.
Look at travel costs
All vacations cost money, so be sure to factor in all travel costs to keep your plans within your budget. You’ll need to take into account any flights, hotel stays, and travel insurance – the latter of which is super important, especially if you’re engaging in any sporting activities, but it will also cover you for the unexpected.
What is your availability?
Factoring in when you’re actually available will help you make decisions on what time of year you go on vacation, allowing you to piece together other parts of the puzzle.
This can mean booking in your vacation days at work in advance if you can, but also means checking the school schedule if you have kids. Try and mark out time in a calendar for when you know you – and the kids – will be available to get away to narrow down your options.
Speaking of availability, it may not be something you want to think about given how much it’s been covered in the last 24 months, but COVID guidance and restrictions are worth checking.
Whether you want to travel the world or take a vacation right here in the US – let’s face it, there are some great options – then take time to work out what restrictions are currently in place.
Another knock-on effect of COVID is that other people may already be planning their vacation for 2022. If you want to avoid disappointment, don’t delay your booking if you have the time specifically set out – book in advance!
Plan your itinerary
When you’ve selected your destination, try coming up with a potential itinerary to give yourself something to look forward to. It’ll also help build your vacation anticipation while giving you plenty of options for when the trip finally rolls around.
Here’s a checklist of things you can research in advance:
- Events – are there any events locally that you can make the most of?
- Tours – are there any tours of the local area to give you more insight and flavor?
- Places – what are the biggest attractions to you personally? Museums? Beaches? Parks?
- Activities – what is the local region known for and are there activities you and the family can participate in?
- Day trips – is your chosen destination close to other areas or attractions you can take a day trip to?
